MIRAVAL LIVING - NEW YORK
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
Construction of bathroom wall and floor coverings in Crema d’Orcia Bamboo finish and honed Piombo.
Kozerski & Bonetti wished to use both stones for the shower areas. Given the particular conditions of humidity in these areas, it was necessary to prevent mould growth (especially important in the construction industry in New York City) so that it would not damage the stone.
Salvatori carried out a cross-analysis of the environmental conditions, the composition of the coverings and the screeds and the reactions of the stone itself. By examining the results we came up with a combination of treatments that would prevent and protect both stones against the formation of mould. Given the considerable area covered (16,000 m²), the next problem was to carry out this process on an industrial scale: our technical department conceived and created a range of specific treatments that allows the material to be finished and ready for laying.
As the project involved around 800 apartments, the second problem was how to transport the stone to each floor, apartment and bathroom.
By examining the maximum load capacity of the elevators and the size of the various doors and openings, we developed apposite packaging. In this way the packages were able not only to pass through openings and be easily moved on site but at the same time they contained the exact amount of material required for each apartment thereby optimising the logistics and timing.
