Israeli architect Pitsou Kedem’s design for this ultra-modern villa turns the rules of gravity on their head, resulting in a floating paradise, surrounded by nature. Find out the story behind it and why he chose Salvatori stone

Can you tell us in your own words a little about the project. What was the inspiration behind the design?
The idea was to produce an iconic and unique structure in the Israeli architectural landscape. Because of the size of the building, we decided to design a mass almost floating in the air that looks light and dynamic. The building itself floats on top of a platform that in turn floats above the ground, and its roofs were built with advanced technologies and look almost like airplane wings - thin at the edge and with slopes at different angles.

We placed 47 different skylights in different configurations that allow natural light to penetrate the roof throughout the day and create movement and drama in the meditative spaces.

Why did you choose Salvatori?
We think that Salvatori’s DNA is very similar to the values we were looking for in the design of this structure. Elegance, about temporality and at the same time also original and unique.
We really like the combination between the precision and the rich materiality of Salvatori textures.

What particularly appeals about the Salvatori products you chose?
In the project we used many series characterised by formal and textural richness. We really liked the three-dimensional series that look almost like a sculptural element on the walls.

How did you find the experience of working with Salvatori?
The products are excellent and there is an absolute connection between the beauty of the product and its quality and all the accompanying service.

Is the client happy with the end result?
Already at the time of the choice they were very satisfied and when you see an entire bathroom covered in the small pattern you chose it is very exciting.

And, a final question that is a little off-topic, but are you happy to share your 10 favourite songs that you listen to when you’re designing or looking for inspiration?
I don't really have 10 favourite songs because I always listen to all kinds of music.
But if I had to choose these would be two bands that would be the soundtrack in the background when designing:

The Cure, especially the song “The same deep water as you”
The Smiths, especially the song “Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me”
