The ADI Golden Compass is universally regarded as the most prestigious design award to be had, and the roll call of past winners is littered with household names.

The brainchild of Gio Ponti, right from its inception in 1964 it was intended as a way to showcase all that was exceptional about Italian design. In the six decades which have passed since then,  it has become a veritable documentary of ingenious and innovative products, services and technology, without, of course, neglecting the renowned Italian aesthetic touch. In fact, the Italian government went so far as to designate the award as a “cultural heritage asset”.

Each year the ADI creates “ Le Vie del Compasso d’Oro” (“The Golden Compass Trail”) in Milan whereby it creates an itinerary encompassing many of the brands and companies who have been either awarded a Golden Compass  or received an Honourable Mention. Essentially it offers design lovers a charming and original way to enjoy a walk punctuated by hubs and hotspots of design, often allowing participants a glimpse into little-known corners of the city.

This year it runs from 7 October until 7 December and one of those stops is our showroom at via Solferino 11. Why are we on the itinerary? Well, in 2014 we received an Honourable Mention for Lithoverde®, the world’s first recycled stone. 99% composed of reused offcuts of natural stone (the final 1% is a natural resin which acts as a binding agent), Lithoverde® was recognised for its innovative approach to sustainability. What we’re particularly proud of, however, is that it’s not only green, but there’s no sacrifice of aesthetics.
