Pietra d'Avola | CNC

CNC was inspired by designer Piero Lissoni’s visit to our Tuscan headquarters where he saw the Computer Numerical Control system at work and was fascinated by the way a precise pattern could be created by experimenting with machine settings.

The small chips and irregularities along the ridges are a design feature of this texture.

More information

You will immediately notice when your Pietra d’Avola tiles arrive that they will have a grey colour rather than the lovely rich brown of the samples you have probably seen.
This is because we do not treat it before it leaves our premises, as it is better done once installed, ideally with an enhancing product which will bring out the intense brown colour.
We recommend FILASTONE PLUS for this.

Pietra d’Avola is a compact material with a very low absorbency coefficient.
As a result most of the water-oil-repellent products on the market are too dense for it as they tend to create a film on the surface of the stone which can be difficult to remove.
This is another reason we recommend FILASTONE PLUS for Pietra d’Avola.

IMPORTANT NOTE
If you are installing Pietra d’Avola in an area where it will be frequently exposed to water, if you apply FILASTONE PLUS as recommended above, you will not require any further water-repellent treatment product.
Please DO NOT use any water sealant product such as FILA HYDROREP in combination with STONE PLUS.
It is not necessary and, in fact, may be detrimental to both the effectiveness of the treatment and the stone’s aesthetic.

All our tiles leave our factory in Tuscany untreated, as the level and type of treatment will always depend on the context in which the stone is laid.
With each order we provide detailed installation instructions setting out directions for grouting, pre-treatment, gluing and final treatment.
Once the stone has been laid, we recommend the following steps for taking care of it.
Always use neutral cleansers (for example, FILACLEANER or neutral soap).
Please don’t use abrasive cleaners, bleach or acid as these can damage the lovely natural stone.
If your stone is exposed to “hard water” where there is a high mineral content, you will need to take a little extra care as the cleaning properties of the FILACLEANER or neutral detergent will be weakened.
You will therefore need to use these products a little more frequently so that soap scum, lime scale and the like do not have the chance to build up and congeal.
